(KZN.RU, September 5). The Kazan Forum on Intercultural Dialogue is held in the capital of Tatarstan with the participation of honorable guests, including representatives of UNESCO and the scientific community. The opening ceremony of the forum was held today in the Kazan City Hall.
“Our priorities are to ensure the equality of peoples and faiths, create the necessary conditions for their free development and cooperation, joint opposition to all forms of radicalism and intolerance”, said Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, opening the forum. “The fact that for centuries, Tatarstan has established the traditions of peaceful coexistence of the two world religions, Islam and Orthodoxy, attracts everyone's attention”.
He told the audience about the work of the Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan, public organizations, national cultural centers that are located in the republic, as well as large-scale work to preserve the historical and cultural heritage. Rustam Minnikhanov expressed confidence that the Kazan Forum on Intercultural Dialogue will become one of the most effective international platforms and platform for the rapprochement of cultures and the activation of mechanisms for a global partnership for sustainable development.
Sin Qu, the first deputy general director of the UNESCO, Sergey Kirienko, the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the RF, Irina Bokova, the former general director of the UNESCO, Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Counselor of the RT and the UNESCO Special Envoy for Intercultural Dialogue, Farid Mukhametshin, the chairman of the State Council of the RT, and others also attended the event.
Earlier, the honored guests visited the reconstructed Cathedral of the Our Lady of Kazan.
